Characteristics of silicone defoamer

1. Wide application:

Because of the special chemical structure of silicone oil, it is neither soluble with water or substances containing polar groups, nor soluble with hydrocarbons or organic compounds containing hydrocarbon groups. Therefore, silicone defoaming agent is uniformly dissolved in water, animal and vegetable oil and high boiling point mineral oil. Because of the insolubility of silicone oil to all kinds of substances, it has a wide range of applications. It can be used both in water system and in oil system.

2. Small surface tension:

The type of viscosity of silicone oil, its surface capacity is generally 20-21 dyne/cm, much smaller than water (72 dyne/cm) and the surface tension of the general foaming liquid, which is also another reason for the wide application of silicone defoamer.

3. Good thermal stability:

Take the commonly used dimethyl silicone oil as an example, it can be resistant to 150 degrees Celsius for a long time, short time can be resistant to more than 300 degrees Celsius, its Si-O bond does not decompose. This ensures that the silicone defoamer can be used in a wide range of temperatures.

4. Good chemical stability:

Because the Si-O bond is relatively stable, the chemical stability of silicone oil is very high, and it is difficult to react with other substances. Therefore, as long as the preparation is reasonable, silicone defoamer can be used in the system containing acid, alkali and salt.

5. Physiological inertia:

Silicone oil has been shown to be non-toxic to humans and animals, with a semi-lethal dose greater than 34 g/kg. Therefore, silicone defoaming agent (with suitable emulsifier) can be safely used in food, medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

6. Strong defoaming power:

Silicone defoaming agent can not only effectively break the formed foam, but also inhibit the foam significantly and prevent the formation of foam. It is used in small quantities, as little as 1 part per million (PPM) of foaming weight is added to produce an antifoaming effect. The common range is 1 to 100 PPM. In this way, not only is the cost low, but also does not pollute the defoaming material.

Because silicone defoaming agent has the above characteristics, so in the application of more and more used to replace other types of defoaming agent, especially in the pharmaceutical, medical and food fermentation industry, is the other types of defoaming agent can not be compared.
