What is the difference between UV coating and PU coating?

lencolo 2022-09-14 646

PU coating is a general term for all polyester coatings. Its film formation mode is natural film formation without special process. Its characteristics are: the film is thin hardness is not high; But it holds on exceptionally well (even wood with as much oil as teak, let alone anything else); Its luster is symmetrical.

UV coatings, also known as UV-curable coatings, are coatings that can quickly cure into a film in a few seconds under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. So UV coating and PU coating are actually not the same product.

The main differences between UV coating and PU coating are:

1. Curing mode of coating

From the definition of UV coating has been known, UV coating is the use of UV curing. Curing agent is used in PU coating.

2. Production efficiency

UV coating is a single component, the use of the process does not need to match curing agent or diluent and other components, and UV coating curing speed, so high efficiency. Due to the long drying time of PU coating, the required construction period is also longer.

3. Environmental protection of production

The solid content of UV coating reaches more than 98%, no solvent volatilization in the use process, all the components contained in curing film, the health hazard to the construction operator and environmental pollution are the lowest. However, the volatilization of harmful substances is more in the process of PU coating construction, which is harmful to operators.

4. Flexibility

UV coating is instant drying with UV irradiation, shrinkage will produce surface paint film cracking. PU coating by osmotic natural drying, generally brushing oil takes 12 hours to dry, so it is not easy to crack and paint off.

5, surface characteristics

UV coating has high gloss, smooth surface and high hardness. PU top paint has better impact resistance and wear resistance than UV paint. PU top paint has better impact resistance and wear resistance than UV paint.

These are the basic differences between UV coatings and PU coatings. Only by understanding the difference between UV coating and PU coating can the application be more accurate.
