SLA stands for "Stereo lithography Appearance". Laser with specific wavelength and intensity is focused on the surface of UV resin, so that it solidifies from point to line and from line to surface in order to complete the mapping of one layer, and then the lifting platform moves a layer height in the vertical direction, and then solidifies another layer. These layers add up to form a three-dimensional entity.

SLA is the earliest practical rapid prototyping technology, using liquid UV resin raw material. The process is as follows: firstly, a 3D solid model is designed by CAD, then the model is sliced by discrete program, and the scanning path is designed. The generated data will precisely control the motion of the laser scanner and the lifting platform. Laser beam through the numerical control device scanner, according to the designed scanning path to illuminate the UV resin surface, so that the surface of a specific area of UV resin curing, when a layer of processing is completed, a section of the generated parts; Then the lifting platform drops a certain distance, the curing layer is covered with another layer of UV resin, and then the second layer of scanning, the second curing layer is firmly bonded to the previous curing layer, so that a layer of stacking into a three-dimensional workpiece prototype. After the prototype is removed from the UV resin, it is cured, polished, and then electroplated, painted, or colored to obtain the desired product.

SLA technology is mainly used to manufacture a variety of molds, models, etc. SLA prototypes can also be used to replace wax molds in investment precision casting by adding other ingredients to the raw material. SLA technology has a faster forming speed and higher precision, but due to shrinkage during UV resin curing process, stress or deformation will inevitably occur. Therefore, the development of shrinkage, curing fast, high strength UV resin is its development trend.
